Need Advice about Central America.?

Posted on Mar 11, 2010 under Central America Beaches | 5 Comments

Me and 4 of my friends (all 20 years old) want to go to Central America this July for two weeks and I want to know which country would be the best. We would like to see historical sites but also nice beaches and nightlife/party scene is a must; along with adventurous activities. We don’t want to be crowded with other tourists and would like to be immersed in the local cultures. 2 of my friends are of spanish decent so communicating will not be a problem. We thought about Costa Rica but are now having second thoughts. Guatemala seems nice but beaches are lacking. Belize has great beaches but I hear it is expensive. Panama is to long and narrow considering we would like to country hop. Thanks for your opinions and any more info would be appreciated.

Consider the north coast of Honduras. La Ceiba and Tela on the coast, or Roatan and the other Bay Islands offer beautiful Caribbean beaches and plenty of night life. Nearby is Pico Bonito National Park with rainforests, white water rafting and lots of wildlife if you are interested in that sort of thing. Ceiba is a bustling small city but just outside you can find villages full friendly people and plenty of local culture.
The entire north coast shows evidence of early Spanish occupation and the troubles they had with English pirates who operated off the Bay Islands. Omoa and Trujillo are where the Spaniards built great forts in the seventeen hundreds to try to ward of the English. Those forts are still there. If you plan to country hop, you can travel between Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador with the same visa you were issued when you arrived in the first of the four countries without all the hassle of another visa. Lastly, whatever you do while you are here will be much less expensive than what you would pay in Belize or Costa Rica.

Edit: You folks who are concerned about Honduras’ political problem are a bit behind times. A new president was legally elected in Nov., took office in Jan. and the whole country is upbeat and optimistic. The "political" problem is behind us.

Hey! thats soo awesome. Im actually 20 years old myself, and lived 3 years in Managua, Nicaragua. I would have to agree with the other guy, and say that Costa Rica is by far the best central american country. If you stay in Costa Rica, there is a bus you can take to Nicaragua. If you guys go anywhere, be sure you go to "Selva Negra" in Nicaragua. Look it up online, it is a really great place you can stay at, CHEAP prices and AMAZING scenery. Theres horses you can ride aroung the rainforest there and everything. look at the pics! http://www.selvanegra.com/en/Home-Resort.html

I think Nicaragua to be the best. Nicaragua has a lot that you will find in Costa Rica minus the huge amount of tourist, the cliche, and high prices. Nicaraguans are very nice and helpful. The country is supposed to be one of the safest in Central America and VERY diverse. You can take your pick once you start researching the country since it is very diverse and so big.
The Bay Islands in Honduras may be your second choice, but I am not sure due to their political issues how safe it may be.
