Can anyone have a bonfires on beaches in Mexico?
Posted on Feb 23, 2010 under Mexico Beaches | 2 CommentsWe are staying at Maroma Beach, that is in between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, do you think having a bonfire on the beach will be okay? We are wanting to do it for a wedding rehersal after party sort of thing.
Ask the people at the hotel. They might even do it for you.
Just an observation: You know Maroma is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and is a secret even in Mexico. I hope if you do manage to have a bonfire you will clean up afterwards.

I don`t think you can and I don`t think that because I have never seen one. Coastal Mexico most of the time is too hot and people prefer the tropical breeze. I have seen 45 gallon drums up in the nose bleed section of Mexico being used to keep warm. Coastal Mexico does not have an abundance of wood that would be suitable for a large fire.
You could probably apply for a permit if you really want to have one but you would be responsible for the clean-up and restoring the beach.
Cancun authorities would never allow the beaches to be littered with firewood debris and ashes. You probably can in the north at some remote area but I know that all coastal beaches and are open to the public and owned by the Federal government. As in Canada all ocean beaches and airports are under the jurisdiction of the Federal authorities.
