Planning out any Cretan holiday can be a challenging job due to the sheer number of available options. There are several towns of significance, each having an abundance of modern infrastructure, archeological richness and natural beauty. You can choose any of these towns for your Crete Sightseeing, depending on your personal choice. Among these towns is Heraklion, the capital and the largest city of Crete. The city accounts for roughly about 15% of all arrivals into Greece through its international airport and consists of a flourishing hotel industry to add comfort to your Crete sightseeing. Heraklion is also where the Minoan archeological site called the Knossos Palace stands.
Chania is the next town for Crete sightseeing after Heraklion. With an official population of around 70,000 in the greater Chania, this second largest city of Crete has several tourist attractions to look around for. The city is roughly divided into two major elements, viz. the old and the new towns. The old one sprawls around the harbor area and carries one of the best ancient settings for holiday making in Greece and elsewhere. The town used to be encircled by the old Venetian fortifications, some of which survive even today adding to your Crete sightseeing plans. If the old town had spas, cafes and other recreational facilities carved out of the old heritage buildings, the new one will surprise you with its modern setting.
One could choose from a number of archeological places in Chania to add to one’s Crete sightseeing. Most of these places lie in Kasteli, Splantzia, Halidon street, at the harbor, in Topanas and the Jewish quarter. The combined tourist arrivals of the above two cities, i.e. Heraklion and Chania, form a decent percentage of the entire Greek tourism. Rethymno is another town, which could be added to one’s Crete sightseeing flavors. The town has a population of roughly 40,000 and a past dating back to antiquity. The old part of Rethymno, built during the Venetian era, is among the best preserved sites of its kind in today’s Crete.
Archeological remains have withstood the change of time, weather and man’s interference in Rethymno, to continue being listed along the best Crete sightseeing locations. These included buildings and harbor from the Venetian period, and stoned staircases and arched doorways from the Hellenic-Roman and Byzantine era. The city has a Venetian castle named the Fortezza, which is one of the largest and most preserved of its kind in the whole of Crete. One more town for Crete sightseeing is Ierapetra in the eastern Crete. It holds a population of about 24,000 and is widely known for its Greek, Roman and Venetian lineages.
Agios Nikolaos is another Crete sightseeing location, which lies east to Heraklion and is widely known for its tourism potential. The town plays a regional hub for 20 odd villages and is well connected through Nikos Kazantzakis airport with the mainland Greece and the European cities. The city is widely believed to have been inhabited since the Bronze period. Crete sightseeing locations within Agios Nikolaos include, the Lake Voulismeni, the island Agioi Pantes, beaches along the coastal region, the local archaeological museum and one key flora exhibition “Iris”.

My fiancé and I are looking for a location for our 2 week honeymoon in September. The most important thing to me is a flawless beach with white sand – something visually stunning and pristine. We want to spend one week at an all inclusive type resort, and another week at something a little more private/exclusive. We want to go somewhere that is adults only, 4 or 5 stars.
I’ve been to resorts before with mediocre, small beaches. I want to go to one that will take my breath away with its beauty. Any suggestions? Thank you!!
My favorite is the 7 mile stretch of white sand that meets the cliffs and caves of Negril Jamaica but there are many others. Check out my link onthe best Caribbean Beaches.

Portugal has a special place in the history of the world. There was a time when the world’s premier explorers and travelers were from Portugal. These explorers discovered new countries and continents during the course of their Reisen (Travel), and mapped the entire known world. Today people come to Portugal to experience this heritage, and have a beautiful time in their own holiday apartment, or Ferienwohnung as we call them in German.
For a long time the adventurous sailors of Portugal ruled the seven seas and controlled the trade among continents. Naturally the kingdom of Portugal was rich and powerful. These riches are reflected well in the architectural monuments of Portugal. There are over 150 castles and forts in the country. When you reisen to Portugal, make sure you visit some of these architectural wonders and see the historical glory of Portugal.
Portugal offers excellent facilities to travelers. You will find restaurants that offer fine dining, cities full of resplendent metro life, outdoors that are plush and green, high mountains and beautiful beaches. It’s a perfect place to visit with the entire family. You can easily rent a Ferienwohnung in any major town of Portugal and live there for an extended period of time peacefully.
Portugal’s capital is the city of Lisbon. Once it was among the leading cities of Europe and the center of the Portuguese empire. It was ravaged in an earthquake in 1775, and although it never got back its former glory, it should still be the most important spot in your reisen. You can easily rent a Ferienwohnung in Lisbon and see the city over a few days. There are several castles in the city and one must see every one of them.
Even in these modern, busy times, Portugal retains some of that old-world charm. For instance, you will still find horse-driven carriages. They’re not meant for commute, but only for tourists. As a dweller of an urban city, you will enjoy the opportunity to reisen in these cars of the old world. You will find Ferienwohnung for rent at the seaside in many towns of Portugal. These cottages are located in the center of beautiful locales, and are a perfect place for a romantic time out from work.
If you’re a foodie, Portugal has the perfect cuisine too. The city of Lisbon is famous for its seafood. There’s hardly a traveler who isn’t captivated by the Bass and Cockrel cooked by Portuguese chefs. If you are in a Ferienwohnung, you can order from a take-out, or a delivery restaurant and enjoy excellent dinners in your home. That’s why Portugal figures prominently on any gastronomic Reisen itinerary.
Portugal also has one of the most wonderful beach stretches in Europe. Algarve’s beautiful beaches are a rage. The beaches of Praia Da Luz and Armação de Pera attract thousands of visitors each year. If you play golf then you will enjoy the beautiful golf courses of Algarve. Many golf-fans Reisen to Portugal just to enjoy golf here. You can easily find a Ferienwohnung here for rent. In fact this region is so popular that many European families have built a permanent holiday home here.

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and the country’s largest city. Its population is more than 2,5 million and it’s the most western of all the European capitals: the city is located on the Atlantic coast, by the Tagus river. This Portuguese pearl will enchant you with its churches, castles, medieval streets and museums.
Its coastal line stretches from the river Tagus to the beaches of Alentejo region, from modern urban constructions to picturesque fishing settlements. Located on the south-western coast of the Pyrenean Peninsula, Costa de Lisboa is rich in natural landmarks and attracts tourists with its mild climate.
Those who come to Lisbon for the first time will see much more than they expected. None of books can give a complete description of the country, where diverse traditions and cultural peculiarities stand side by side. In the course of 15 centuries not only local people, but also merchants and travelers from India, Japan and Africa brought their customs to Lisbon.
The city’s historic centre stands on seven hills, that is why Lisbon is rich in steep slopes, which make it difficult for cars and buses to move along some streets. But the city is provided with funiculars and lifts – quite a spectacular view it is. No wonder why this area has long been attracting romantic people and merchants. A lot has changed since the times when first settlers appeared on this territory, but the city’s looks are still stunning. All this plus the relaxed and unconstrained atmosphere of Lisbon and the mixture of different architectural styles – and you will find yourself in one of the most pleasant cities in the world. What is no less important, a stay in Lisbon won’t cost you a fortune – the city is really economical.
The heart of Lisbon is filled with wide avenues, green trees, modernist-style buildings, mosaic decorations and numerous cafes. Lisbon is like an impressionist painting which depicts small pastel-painted houses, the domes and towers of local churches. One local attraction is the Monsanto Forest Park 10 square kilometers big – this is one of the largest European parks.
The city is now being reborn and renovated. After many years of standstill and passiveness, nowadays its modern, lively, energetic and cosmopolitan atmosphere reminds of the times when Lisbon was the trade centre and the starting point for many sea expeditions.
Renovation of the city started in the 1990s. During the period there were a number of new constructions erected here. Those are Vasco da Gama Bridge connecting the city airport with the country’s highways and Gare do Oriente transport hub (built by the project of an award-winning Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava) that connects Lisbon with the rest of Europe.
But those are not only new projects that enchant tourists – the city will attract you with its old charm and a sort of provincial feeling. The Castle of Sao Jorge at the magnificent medieval district, old wooden trams riding up and down the streets, art-deco cafes and roadways decorated with mosaics will help you feel the city atmosphere. Many historic attractions were destroyed during the great 1755 Lisbon Earthquake, but many were left and are now no less popular with tourists than such modern constructions as the Lisbon Oceanarium.
A small distance away from the city tourists can enjoy several sandy beaches: Costa da Caparica, Estoril and Cascais, forests of Sintra and a wonderful Mafra Monastery. Lisbon is filled with light, vivid, self-assured, fresh and modern spirit.

My family and I are planning a summer vacation and we’d like to go somewhere warm, sunny and wet so my husband suggested a beach, but we don’t know where to go. We live near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and we’d like to go somewhere with some sort of campground near walking distance to the beach, resterants near by, and clean. Cost or location does not matter as long as it’s along the east cost. We went to lake erie last summer and it was very dirty. Thank you all who take the time to answer and happy holidays!
Hilton Head, south carolina is great. It would be more for a family that likes to camp and the outdoors.
Myrtle Beach is nice too, but it is way more built up than Hilton Head. It is busier and much more commercial.
Both are nice though!

I live in New Orleans and I have a vacation planned in June to go to Panama City Beach, Florida. I was wondering if anyone knows the condition of the beach’s water, sand and smell.
Destin Area Expert is a spammer all his websites are connected please report him. He posts all his websites in all of his answers. Also stop telling people we aren’t getting oil to sell your hotel business – forecasts ARE NOT GOOD.
As for your question:
Right now we have no spillage but we have smelt some of the burning oil and it smells horrible.
Right now no one really knows what will happen until they resolve the leak issue. Really what is going to happen over the next few months during hurricane season if they don’t clean it up.
