Damn right you can. A friend and I are thinking seriously of buying one of the larger plots of land on the lochaber estate, just so we can talk about travelling to our scottish estate for our holidays in front of those arrogant people who look down their noses at you cos you don’t drive an up to date car, don’t mortgage yourself to the hilt just for appearance’s sake, and wouldnt know a good time if it jumped up and bit them on the butt! Also, just imagine having one of those stuck up bitches hand you your mail, addressed to Lady…………….. of Lochaber. hehehe

Mind you, the largest plot of land is way cheaper than the airfare needed to get to scotland and back again, and if we did ever get enough money together to travel that far, we’d have to camp out on our ‘estate’ in a 2-person tent, cos its all we’d be able to afford, he he.

Lord is a title usually reserved for peers of the realm. You’re not supposed to be able to buy one of those, and if you did it would cost more than £20.

You can become "Lord of the Manor" by buying the title to a piece of land that carries feudal rights. That doesn’t actually give you the title Lord Smith, but you can hang a bit of paper on the wall saying you’re a Lord. It’s even cheaper in Scotland where any landowner can call themselves Laird (that’s about half of the population).

An even cheaper way is simply to call yourself "Lord". As long as you’re not claiming any privileges or rights to which you’re not entitled, and you’re not impersonating anyone, you can call yourself what you like. And any woman can call herself "Lady". In fact any man can call himself "Lady" if he feels so inclined.

So in future, I’ll be known as Old Lady Know All.

No you cannot, if your father was a lord at one time it may have been passed down to you,but these days there is a new ruling where you can only be appointed one by the queen
